In 2016, ALDO conducted a literacy and poverty baseline survey in Mutaro Village, Maralal Town, Samburu
County, engaging community members to identify key education and livelihood challenges. The findings
revealed critical gaps in literacy levels and household income, shaping the design of subsequent ALDO
interventions on education support, women’s economic empowerment, and sustainable livelihood initiativesacross Samburu and other arid and semi-arid counties.
